Abstract

In this research, using discourse analysis, the role of the people in ensuring the security of the government has been investigated in two discourses of the Islamic Republic and Marxism. In examining the political developments of contemporary Iran, two discourses are seen as two significant approaches. One of the most important issues in the confrontation between these two discourses is the attitude towards the position of the people in ensuring the security and legitimacy of the government.
The main hypothesis of this research is based on the premise that although the two discourses have fundamental differences in The methods of governance, both discourses have convergences in emphasizing the role of the people in ensuring the security and legitimacy of the government. This research uses the qualitative approach and discourse analysis method of Lacla and Mofe to examine the role of people in providing government security. The main tool of data collection is the study of documents, analysis of historical texts and related researches. In this research, the discourses of the Islamic Republic and Marxism are considered as independent variables and the role of the people in providing government security as a dependent variable. The three components of government legitimacy, political participation and freedom have been examined to analyze the role of the people in these two discourses, and the research results show that despite the differences in the type of governance, both discourses give special importance to the role of the people in providing security and legitimacy of the government. For security policymakers, a understanding of the semantic system of these discourses and taking advantage of their strengths can be the basis for creating a security system that not only enjoys public support, but also has the ability to deal with changing.
