In contemporary society, the use of terms such as turmoil, unrest, riot, mass protest behavior, etc., all indicate the importance of dissatisfaction and the roots and social factors that shape them, and in this regard, the general government seeks to eliminate them and restore political and social stability. Due to the importance of this issue, the purpose of this research is to analyze the social roots of the formation and occurrence of social dissatisfaction in Iran (Case study: citizens of Tehran). The method of this research is documentary-survey and the statistical population includes the citizens of Tehran. The sample size consisted of 271 citizens of Tehran who were selected by multi-stage cluster sampling method. The data collection tool was a questionnaire whose validity was assessed by face and content validity method and its reliability was confirmed using Cronbach's alpha coefficient. Data were analyzed using SPSS software. Findings showed that the majority of 80.1% of Tehran citizens had no or no desire to participate in non-civil forms of social protests. Only 7.7% were highly willing to participate in violent forms of social discontent. Therefore, the violent tendencies among the citizens of Tehran are very weak and the majority of citizens want to express their dissatisfaction in peaceful forms. Analytically, the findings showed that the variables of relative deprivation, growing expectations, social status values, failure to meet needs, feelings of injustice and social anomie, have a positive and significant relationship with social dissatisfaction and its manifestations.
