The role of political elites in the political, social, economic and cultural developments of countries is an interesting category and the realization of this role depends to a large extent on their intellectual coherence and consensus in the theoretical and practical fields. Since national interests and security are the most important principle in the political stability and independence of a country with a political unit; Therefore, the adoption of a security policy is based on the presuppositions and expectations that the political elites of a country have regarding national security and its subject and example. This is where the importance of the role of political elites in determining the issue and example of national interests and security is clear; Therefore, one of the most important points emphasized by the Supreme Leader is the preservation and development of the interests and national security of the country. In this regard, considering the sensitive position of political elites and administrators in the Islamic system, the main purpose of this research is to study the role and function of political elites in maintaining the interests and national security of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the thought of Ayatollah Khamenei. The method of the article is qualitative case content analysis in a library style and documentary analysis of speeches and statements of the Supreme Leader. The findings show that according to the statements of the Supreme Leader, the role of political elites in fields such as: political development, elections, Islamic awakening, national unity and trust, guiding political parties and currents, clarification and enlightenment strategy, predicting events, problem analysis It affects planning, decision-making, interests and national security.
